In this article we will be looking at the best new comics this week, on July 1st 2026, to help you make your choice. Whether it’s a series you have been reading for a while continuing its journey, or something completely new, I’m sure there is something here for you.

Absolute Green Lantern #16

The Absolute universe is something we have followed closer at Nerdy Nook since the beginning. Fans of the universe will be pleased to know there are two new additions coming this week, Absolute Green Lantern #16 and Absolute Martian Manhunter #12.

The one that stands however, is of course Absolute Green Lantern. After a big build up, Tomar Re and Jo Mullein will finally find themselves face-to-face with the Blackstars, and that is where Sinestro will make his full, in-person debut. This series has been a bit up and down in our opinion, but there is absolutely (excuse the pun) no doubt in my mind that its only upwards from here… this could end up being the best Absolute Green Lantern to date

What If…? Secret Wars #1

As you might imagine, Secret Wars is quite the topic at the moment, as is Spider-Man with the release of Brand New Day right around the corner. The timing of this comic could not be more perfect!

What if… the ultimate universe, Battleworld, survived the Secret Wars? Who would Peter Parker become after losing everything? That’s the premise of this What If…? Secret Wars, a complex and interesting narrative which is sure to amount to something special. If you have never read a What If…? Comic, this is as good a time as any. These comics follow the same sort of vibe as Absolute in the sense they are elseworld comics, set within an alternative timeline, with the characters you love but a whole different story and more vulnerable than you have ever seen them before.

Killer Influence #1

Here’s something completely different, a crime comic like no other. Now, I am not usually into crime thrillers, at least not when it comes to comics. I usually prefer to read about heroes in capes, but this comic simply cannot be missed.

Imagine a serial killer, aspiring to be one of the world’s most infamous, but he’s just too good. Melvin, the killer, is so efficient and methodical that simply has no brand whatsoever. No one connected his crimes, enter Kylie… an aspiring true crime influencer stuck in a dead end job at a small-town newspaper. The pair quickly realise they can help each other reach the level of fame they desperately desire. I hope you are already as hooked by that brief synopsis as I am! Killer Influence is going to be excellent with a complex and original narrative, while touching on the satires of the internet.

Star Wars: Rogue One – Saw Gerrera #1

And the award for longest comic name goes to… only teasing! Who doesn’t love a Star Wars spin off series? I know I certainly do, and with Rogue One being one of my favourite Star Wars films, I could not be more excited for this.

This one shot issue, follows the story of a true freedom fighter Saw Gerrera as he fights the good fight to try to shift the balance of power. This is the third instalment of five one shot comics to be released in celebration of Rogue Ones 10th anniversary, the final comic being Darth Vader – surely an unmissable conclusion. It’s not too late to begin this epic adventure and join in with the 10th anniversary celebrations.
