Absolute Batman #2
Spoiler Free Review
The Absolute series so far has been mostly outstanding. My previous scepticisms were put to rest with the release of Absolute Batman #1, but with such a strong start is it just doomed to fail? Luckily we can get more of an idea on that today with the release of Absolute Batman #2. It’s important to note, this comic is becoming more popular than even DC had imagined, pre-orders sold out almost instantly and forced the comic to go back to print a third time – this does not happen often which gives me high hopes for what is to come in the second issue, so what is all the fuss about?
As always, this review will be completely spoiler free but we do recommend you check out the Absolute Batman #1 comic and our review before you dive any deeper since there might be a few spoilers down below for that. Anyway, I am much too eager to talk about this with you, so let’s just get into the Absolute Batman #2 review!
The Review

Absolute Batman #2 picks up right where issue 1 left off, the Party Animals, this city’s big threat, are increasing in numbers and becoming more and more of a threat to Batman… or are they? We quickly learn Alfred is still tracking and seemingly looking out for Batman, but the Bat is just one step ahead, beating all those who stir up a bit too much trouble. With the police force failing to stop these hooligans, all eyes turn to Batman for bringing justice to the city which makes the GCPD a little uptight.
Absolute Batman #2 adds some much needed progression to the story, though the action is much more tame than we saw in issue 1, this one lends a hand to key character growth. Batman and Alfred are getting closer to their alliance, though it is still unclear whether or not they want to same things, and we learn much more about how this Batman gathers his intel using the knowledge of some very familiar faces – though I hope they do progress to their villainous ways rather than remaining side characters.
Just like last issue, the artwork is so beautiful in a dark and gothic kind of way, nothing displeasing about the visuals in Absolute Batman #2 and yet I found myself somewhat disappointed.

The issue for me is, perhaps Scott Snyder started too strong with the first issue, it kind of just makes this one feel like a bridge. Not exactly a filler issue since we see a lot of progression to the story, just in the long run I think I will come to appreciate this issue more when we have even more content.
Absolute Batman #1 teased the appearance of an iconic Batman character, unfortunately this did not come into play in Absolute Batman #2 which was a little disappointing. Instead, we are teased with another icon who hopefully will make an appearance in the next issue.
Though it might not sound like I enjoyed Absolute Batman #2, I absolutely did. However, I feel as though last issue was building up to more than seen in this week’s issue. I have absolutely no doubt over time, all the parts of this story will come together in a explosive way which still has me excited about the next instalment (especially with how this one ended), just expected more out of issue 2.

Absolute Batman #2 adds some important character and story growth but came across as much more relaxed than the last issue. The series still seems to be setting up something major which keeps readers intrigued, with still so many questions left unanswered it’s hard not to want more.
Next issue will without a doubt introduce more alternative versions of beloved characters, hopefully some more allies for Batman – I cannot be more excited to see what’s in store and to ultimately find out more on who is behind these organised attacks across Gotham.
