In the last Absolute Batman issue, Batman betrayed his deal with Black Mask which led to Black Mask effectively sending the city into madness. Absolute Batman #6 picks up right where we left off. Batman is still injured and helpless, Gotham is still on a path of living through nothing but havoc as the first arc draws to an end.

Just a word of warning, this Absolute Batman #6 is potentially the most gory comic in the series so far. As always the gore and violence was not used in distastefully and contributes to some really incredible looking panels, but some moments may make you wince. Absolute Batman is forever pushing the boundaries when it comes to how he makes his enemies pay, it is unclear whether or not he has a no killing rule or not, but you cannot predict what he might do next, which gives this comic an incredibly unpredictable story, even if it seems like the end for Batman. His bravery has always been something to admire, that is only highted in this comics with all the uncertainty.

Not only did this issue showcase Batman’s bravery, but Martha Wayne’s too. Martha is so well portrayed in Absolute Batman #6, as she stood beside Mayor Gordon to take a stand against an entire city of lunatics, I found myself rooting for her more than anyone else. I almost found myself pleading that nothing bad happened to her, but is that just delaying the inevitable?

I must take a minute to talk about the artwork of Absolute Batman #6. As always, truly breathing taking, but there are a few moments that stand above the rest and are almost haunting. The use of different sepia tones to differentiate between the time periods continue to make Absolute Batman visually stunning, but so easy to follow.

Absolute Batman #6 was set up to be an explosive issue… it most certainly did not disappoint. I could not think of a more perfect end to the series first arc. All the important loose ends were tied up whilst leaving some room for important developments and stories in the future.

There really is not a lot to fault in this issue. To be completely honest, The only thing I did find disappointed was that we are still yet to meet an adult Selina Kyle, but that is a preference thing and does not take anything away from this spectacular entry – mentions of Selina have been consistent too so I am sure we shall meet the Absolute Catwoman soon enough, so I can wait.

Absolute Batman #6 concludes the comics first arc in an explosive and satisfying way. This issue does not slow down from start to finish and was the perfect end to such a strong start for the series. With the next arc already set up, Absolute Batman is not slowing down anytime soon and will undoubtedly continue to bring us the best Scott Snyder has to offer.

What are your thoughts on Absolute Batman’s first arc ‘The Zoo‘? Where do you think the series will go from here? Whatever your thoughts and feelings, share them with us in the comment section of this article.
