Absolute Superman #13 Review
Spoiler Free Review
Here we are again, another Wednesday, another comic book here for us to review! Today, Absolute Superman #13 hits the shelves in what might be the most action packed issue in the series so far. This series has shown us nothing but brilliance, and thankfully this month’s issue is no different, but lets talk about that in our Absolute Superman #12 review.
In Nerdy Nook fashion, this review will be spoiler-free. However, we do recommend you read the previous issue before continuing as we will be discussing the overarching story so far.
The Review

Last issue, we saw Superman in the middle of self-conflict, as he tried to regain his own sanity. As he slowly regains his sense of humanity after the torture Brainiac put him through, Superman now faces a bigger threat with Lazarus forces invading Smallville.
Absolute Superman #13 really does take things up a notch. It’s action packed, gripping and truly heroic – everything you would expect from a Superman comic. But where this comic shines is not with Superman, nor the brave heroic people of Smallville. This issue is about the rise of two new heroes, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. Although these two have been a big part of the series so far, they really make their mark in Absolute Superman #13, making you almost forget that it’s a Superman comic.
This was just what this series needed. For so long it’s been a question of whether or not we can trust Lois Lane, especially after what happened with Talia al Ghul. It was great to have her play a larger role in this issue, and really see her become a hero – although I do believe Jimmy was slightly pushed aside. He has so much potential in this universe, but it’s hard to see him as anything more than a sidekick at the moment . Don’t get me wrong, he makes a mighty fine sidekick, I just hope for more heroic Jimmy moments in the future.

One line really stuck with me in Absolute Superman #13 – ‘I’m only here to bleed’. That line so perfectly sums up the Absolute series as a whole, in particular Superman and Wonder Woman. Neither one of these heroes are from this planet, they do this because they choose to be the hero. They could have just as easily become the villains, but instead protect the people of Earth. What a powerful, and very well written, concept – just so perfectly executed.
As always, Absolute Superman #13 has exceptional artwork from the incredibly talented Rafa Sandoval, brought to life in colour by the amazing Ulises Arreola’s. I don’t know where this series would be without these two talented individuals.
I would love to say Absolute Superman #13 was the perfect issue, as it was fantastic, however… ultimately it felt like a bit of a filler. I really did enjoy it, but unfortunately, it concluded in a way that has been done before in this series, which felt predictable and made the last 2 issues feel a little anticlimactic.

Overall Absolute Superman #13 was a great issue with a gripping narrative and completely action packed. Though this issue is just a build up to a much bigger story, this issue was an essential part of making this series and its characters shine.
