We take a step back into the current time period, following agent Lois Lane on her search around the globe for the mysterious Superman, but why? Is she a friend or foe? Everything will start to piece together in this issue.

I have waited too long for the arrival of Absolute Superman #4, since the surprising end of the last issue, I have not stopped thinking about what’s next for the series. We were set up into believing Kal-El is the last of his kind, the only Kryptonian to walk to the earth, a story told a million times, having his parents live and follow him to earth was an interesting twist sure to please fans… this issue was the real test to see how well it was executed, I’m pleased to say you will not be disappointed.

It is important to know, this issue is a very Lois Lane heavy story, meaning there is very little from Superman himself. While Superman is the main show, we still knew very little about this universes Lois Lane – having her so prominent in Absolute Superman #4 was a bold but brilliant choice. We finally see the badass side to Lois we have wanted to for quite some time, but boy does it get violent. As you would expect, the Absolute universe Lois, being an agent of Lazarus Corp, has some combat training, but seeing her beat so brutally beat someone in the first few pages was totally unexpected from me.

I am unsure whether this effected me more due nature of one of the injuries in the first few pages, but Absolute Superman #4 is potentially one of the most violent issues in the Absolute universe so far, on par with the violence we saw in Absolute Batman #1, so I’m afraid, you’ll need to prepare your stomachs.

With this first collective of stories coming to a close, Last Dust of Krypton, things are starting to tie in together, but are by no means slowing down. We still do not know exactly if Lois Lane is friend or foe, and there is so much story to be had there, but now we also have The Omega Men (including a very loveable addition to the group) and Peacemaker Smith to worry about? This universe is growing at such a fast pace but surprisingly it’s easy to follow and is nothing but exciting.

Despite how much I loved this comic, it is my job to give you an honest review and I would be lying if I said there are not some doubts that come from reading it. Though the story is very easy to follow, so many beloved characters are being thrown into the mix that I am worried it will not leave too much room for individual character growth short term, but hopefully we will get more issues like this one highlighting all the important in this universe. If I was not almost certain before, the amount of characters contributing to the Absolute Superman story is a sure indication that Absolute Justice League is going to happen.

One minute Lois Lane is infatuated, the next she thinks Superman’s a threat. While this is such a believable storyline, the unknown is a terrifying thing, I do fear this is just stalling the inevitable – of course I mean Lois being a Friend of Kal-El. But, I have been wrong before and if there is anything following this series so closely has taught me, it is to expect the unexpected. I just really hope they pull a really big twist out the bag and bring us into an even more bizarre world (sorry for the Superman pun, I simply could not resist).

Lastly, I must add, the art by Rafa Sandoval is so beautifully brought to life in this comic by colourist Ulises Arreola, the two just compliment each other in such a spectacular way, especially during panels that are a little more explosive!

Absolute Superman #4 is the fierce, empowering Lois Lane story you’ve been waiting for. With a soul focus on side characters, Absolute Superman #4 excellently expands on this ever growing universe in such a unique way, it is almost impossible not to love.
