Best Comics Released in 2025
This year ended up being one of the best for comic book releases. With releases of long awaited sequels and some unique twists on fan favourites, this year has left readers with no shortage of different genres. There are some, however, that stand out more than others, some that will stick with you for many years to come, and far beyond just 2025.
In this article, we are going to take a look at the best comics released in 2025. Next year is sure to be filled with even more gems to indulge, but for now we want to appreciate all that this year has given us. Let’s get into the list!
Absolute Batman – Abomination

It is probably no secret by now that I am in love with the Absolute universe. One Absolute comic that deserves a lot of praise, for the second year running, is Absolute Batman. This series has surprised us over the last two years, but the explosive Abomination arc really took the series to new levels. Scott Snyder has perfectly managed to blend the iconic Batman we know and love with a horror environment, and completely terrifying characters.
I’ve said it once, I will say it again, Absolute Batman is the best comic to release in 2024 – if you haven’t read it yet, do yourself a favour and pick it up. With the series’ next arc kicking off early next year, there’s never been a better time to start reading this one.
The Cold Witch

Here is my favourite series realised this year (I’m as surprised as all of you regular Nerdy Nook readers that it isn’t a Batman comic), the third instalment of The Shrouded College, The Cold Witch. The Cold Witch is a story unlike any others we have seen in this universe – this is a story of heartbreak and revenge, and it truly is an excellent read!
Charles Soule and Will Sliney have really created something special here. I did not expect to love this universe as much as I do, but it is so just so unique that it’s hard not to. The series is about to get even better too when the next chapter releases next year. I have no doubt Empire of Ash will make its way onto our 2026 comic round up.
Invincible Universe: Battle Beast

Next up, we have Invincible, a series which has absolutely blown up despite not releasing a comic since 2018. Well, this year changed that trend with the release of Battle Beast, a completely exceptional comic. Not only does this series fill in the gaps during Invincible, where this fan-favourite character is missing in action only to reappear in prison, but it expands on the Invincible universe as a whole.
Most importantly, in Battle Beast, the story takes a deep dive into Battle Beast’s history, his internal conflict, and ultimately his reasoning for embarking on this quest to find an opponent worthy enough of killing him. On its own, this comic is a great read, but reading it in the middle of the Invincible was such an incredible and seamless experience. I highly recommend you give it a go the next time you want to take a deep dive into the series.
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader

Another entry from one of Nerdy Nook’s favourite comic book writers, Charles Soule, Star Wars: Legacy of Vader. Now, I’m as iffy on the sequels as the next person, but this story bridges the gap perfectly between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, as Kylo Ren finds himself in a moral dilemma, conflicted between light and dark.
Charles Soule is a truly inspirational writer, especially when it comes to Star Wars – the man just gets the universe. Unfortunately, this series is set to end with issue #12 in January, but all that means is that very soon, you will be able to read this brilliance in its entirety.
The Death of the Silver Surfer

Here we are, the final entry in our best comics released in 2025 list, The Death of the Silver Surfer. This was a tough choice to make and I was stuck between this and one of the many excellent One World Under Doom releases, but ultimately I had to go with this considering its unique, and really quite tragic, story.
I will not go into too much detail since the title is pretty self-explanatory, but essentially Silver Surfer is caught in a deadly conflict. Greg Pak did an outstanding job writing The Death of the Silver Surfer and artist Summit Kumar really brings this comic to life, exceptional work all around. This is not the first time Greg Pak has made his way onto our yearly round up, I cannot wait to see how he stuns us next year!
Conclusion
Although we only listed a few above, there was so much more 2025 had to offer, it really made it tough to choose what was right for this list. 2025 was undoubtedly another great year for comics, but 2026 has so even more on the table. Some of the best comics from the last couple of years are still releasing monthly and are only going to get better with each new arc, but for those that have ended, we would like to thank the incredible writers, artists and colourists who brought these to life.
