The 10 Best Disney Dreamlight Valley Updates

The Top 10 Disney Dreamlight Valley Updates, Ranked

The long-anticipated ‘Tales of Agrabah’ update finally arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley on the 26th February, and it got us thinking about all of the content updates that the game has brought us so far. It’s been quite a while since Gameloft introduced Disney Dreamlight Valley to the world, and though there’s plenty of exciting content updates to come, we decided it was time to look back on the game’s growth over the past few years, and in typical Nerdy Nook fashion, do a good, old-fashioned ranking!

Today, we’re ranking the top 10 content updates to release in Disney Dreamlight Valley – we will be including both the free, base-game content updates, along with looking into the DLC expansion packs released to players. There’s been some great updates to the game over the years, and with teasers of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty on the horizon, you can be sure that there’s plenty of incredible, cozy content to come. With that being said, let’s kick-off our ranking at number 10!

10. Thrills & Frills

Dreamlight Valley - Daisy

Just barely making the list is the ‘Thrills & Frills’ update, released back in May 2024. Daisy Duck, for a long time, was one of the major notable characters missing from the ‘Mickey & Friends’ character line-up, so it was great to finally see her added to the game. This update also introduced the ‘A Day at Disney’ Star Path, which helped enhance players’ homemade Disneyland replicas in their Valleys – the ‘Toontown’ furniture I got from this Star Path are a staple to my valley to this day.

However, one potential downside for many with this update was the introduction of Daisy’s Boutique, a building which I can confidently say, I barely ever enter. Occasionally, one of my Star Path tasks will direct me to complete one of the Boutique’s challenges, but outside of this, I never pay her business a visit. The building’s shape was also the bane of many players’ existence, especially before the ‘Sew Delightful’ update allowed the placement of objects along diagonal axes. As nice as it was to see Daisy finally make her way to the Valley, her Boutique was far from the most useful store buildings in the game.

9. DreamSnaps

The ‘DreamSnaps’ update was one of the earlier updates released for Disney Dreamlight Valley, releasing back in July 2023. Despite how difficult it is to carve out a section of your Valley for Vanellope to place her very gaudy, oddly-shaped home, it was exciting to see her appear in the game as a villager (even if we are still waiting for her Wreck-It-Ralph co-star to appear). The Vanellope quests also gave the player access to some really nice clothing and furniture items, which is a big plus for this update.

However, where this update stands out is the introduction of the DreamSnaps system to the game, a system which has enthralled players to this very day. The game’s camera doesn’t save your pictures to any sort of gallery, so for a long time, the camera felt like a fairly useless tool. The ‘DreamSnaps’ update brought to the game a challenge system, tasking players with taking pictures centred around some sort of theme in regularly-scheduled events. Players would then vote on who took the best picture, with the winner receiving prizes. It’s easy to forget that DreamSnaps didn’t always exist in Disney Dreamlight Valley, which is a testament to how embraced the feature has been by fans.

8. Tales of Agrabah

The latest Disney Dreamlight Valley update, ‘Tales of Agrabah’, landed on the 26th February, and it’s been one of the game’s stronger updates to kick off the new year. On the surface, ‘Tales of Agrabah’ is an exciting update for the content it brings to the game – the addition of Aladdin and Jasmine, along with an expansive new Realm for the duo is a huge asset for the game. Aladdin is one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time, and the addition of Jasmine adds another name to the list of classic Disney princesses we have in the game.

However, ‘Tales of Agrabah’ wouldn’t have made it this high on the list if it was entirely centred around the addition of two new characters. This update has earned a great reputation thus far for being representative of Gameloft’s commitment to listening to the fans. The ‘Tales of Agrabah’ update includes lots of bug fixes, updates to game systems to improve quality-of-life, the ability to tag items as villagers’ favourite daily gifts, and more customization options for players’ homes. From a technical perspective, the ‘Tales of Agrabah’ update is a big win for Disney Dreamlight Valley players, beyond just the addition of two beloved characters.

7. Dapper Delights

Fans of the cooking mechanic in Disney Dreamlight Valley rejoiced when the ‘Dapper Delights’ update hit the game back in August 2024. The ‘Dapper Delights’ update not only added another Disney princess to the game’s line-up, but also gave the newly-added Tiana her own restaurant business and stall. Every building to come with the ‘Dapper Delights’ update was visually stunning, and added depth to the Glade of Trust, an area that was rarely the focal point of any quests or updates up until that point.

The update also introduced a Star Path under the same name, filled with art deco, vintage clothing and furniture, perfect for the vibe that the introduction of Tiana brought to Dreamlight Valley. While I wish Tiana’s introduction had more of an impact on the core storyline of the game, the update was still delightful in its own way, and I still make sure to visit Tiana’s Palace as often as I can when doing my daily rounds around the Valley. ‘Dapper Delights’ may not be the absolute best update to ever hit Disney Dreamlight Valley, but it was certainly the most stylish to date.

6. The Lucky Dragon

Released in June 2024, ‘The Lucky Dragon’ update shortly preceded the release of ‘Dapper Delights’, and the two are fairly on-par as far as quality goes – however, as far as my personal taste goes, the ‘Majesty and Magnolias’ Star Path was just a little more appealing to me in regard to clothing and furniture options. ‘The Lucky Dragon’ update also has the added bonus of introducing a Realm for the added Mulan characters, as opposed to how bluntly Tiana was introduced to the Valley. Sure, the quests in said Realm were more than a little frustrating, but the team at Gameloft’s creativity was on full display throughout, and that, I can admire.

Unfortunately, this update does lose some points for introducing the ‘Order Up!’ initiative to the game, which is essentially the origin behind those annoying daily Remy quests you keep seeing show up – ‘wrought iron’ has never been such a cause for distress. However, the update also introduced the ‘Memory Mania’ event, a tie-in to the release of Inside Out 2 in which players explored their Valleys to uncover movie-related memories to unlock prizes. As far as aesthetic goes, ‘The Lucky Dragon’ update was one of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s crowning achievements, and it was great to see Mulan and Mushu added to the growing cast of characters.

5. The Pumpkin King Returns

The ‘Pumpkin King Returns’ update was released to Disney Dreamlight Valley back in December 2023, and marked the game’s first, proper Christmas update, considering December 2022 was dedicated to a Toy Story update. What better way to celebrate Disney Dreamlight Valley’s first Christmas update than the introduction of The Nightmare Before Christmas to the Valley, along with a festive Star Path filled to the brim with Xmas items that fans can’t wait to see return to the Item Shop.

This update also introduced the long-awaited multiplayer feature to the game, and while there’s still a ways to go in terms of making the multiplayer mode properly functional, it was great to finally be able to visit your friends’ Valleys beyond sharing a screen. As far as Dreamlight Valley characters go, Jack Skellington is also one of my favourite additions to the cast, so this update was a real joy all around. While it lacked the addition of any groundbreaking new features, what this update did, it did extremely well.

4. A Rift In Time

‘A Rift In Time’ will always be remembered as Disney Dreamlight Valley’s first foray into the world of paid-DLC expansion packs, and what a way to introduce the feature. There was no shortage of content when it came to the introduction of Eternity Isle, a whole alternate Valley for players to customize and explore. The update also, at least by its end, added five new characters to the Valley, with some particular standouts being the addition of Rapunzel, Oswald, and Jafar. As far as content updates go, ‘A Rift In Time’ was practically bursting at the seams.

However, this was still a trial-run of sorts for Gameloft when it came to paid-DLC, and not everything landed perfectly. The Royal Hourglass is far from the most enjoyable tool introduced to the game – in fact, it’s probably my least favourite tool to equip and explore the Valley with. The introduction of Scramblecoin also felt like a strange decision – no matter how often characters dash up to me and ask to play, I just can’t bring myself to do it. In terms of characters, worldbuilding, and storytelling, ‘A Rift In Time’ was a real triumph, but the team at Gameloft improved on the paid-DLC model in nearly every way when it came to their next expansion pack, unfortunately leaving Eternity Isle, ironically, in the past.

3. A Festival of Friendship

This update sort of flies under players’ radars when it comes to discussions like these, but it was only when putting this list together that I realised just how great the ‘A Festival of Friendship’ update was. This update not only brought Olaf and Mirabel to the Valley, the former of which had quite a contribution to the main storyline of the game, but also brought the ‘Centennial’ Star Path to the game, filled with items related to the celebration of 100 years of Disney. This update also introduced Role Training Manuals, allowing players to change the roles of villagers after assigning one to them – I don’t use this feature too often, but knowing the option is there is always nice.

While some fans may not be the biggest supporter of this feature, this update did also introduce the Premium Shop to the game, which has allowed players to access all sorts of incredible items ever since its launch. Sure, you need to occasionally open up your wallet to experience the Premium Shop at its full capability, but the introduction of it did open up a whole new realm of possibilities for items to be added to the game, including House Dream Styles, which were also introduced for the first time in this update. I feel like many people simply think of this as the ‘Mirabel and Olaf’ update, but so many new features were added to the game with this patch, it’s well-deserving of such a high placement here.

2. The Storybook Vale

‘The Storybook Vale’, in many ways, can be described as ‘A Rift In Time’, but improved on in practically every way. The second, and only other, paid-DLC expansion to be released for Disney Dreamlight Valley, ‘The Storybook Vale’ exceeded all expectations when it came to its release (well, the character choice could be a little better). Exploring the Vale itself was a far more pleasant experience than Eternity Isle, and the Royal Net is a much better tool than the Hourglass – catching snippets is satisfying, and their contribution to unlocking Lorekeeper mini-games makes it feel purposeful.

It seems like the team at Gameloft are also more committed than ever to making sure that characters have nice-looking houses that can fit into all sorts of Valley biomes – Merida and Flynn both have beautiful houses, and Hades’ Lair fits perfectly into the Forgotten Lands, for those looking to turn that area into a villains’ hub. Another highlight of ‘The Storybook Vale’ was the addition of some of the cutest companions the game has ever seen – pegasuses, dragons, and owls, oh my! There’s more content to come with ‘The Storybook Vale’, with the presumed arrival of Aurora and Maleficent later this year, and who knows? Maybe ‘The Storybook Vale’ will be the best update to the game by the time it’s all said and done.

1. The Remembering

The gold medal here has to go to ‘The Remembering’, by far the most story-based update the game has ever seen. Unlike practically every other update that Disney Dreamlight Valley has ever received, ‘The Remembering’ was a deceptively heartbreaking story update, even including a warning to players that some story events may be upsetting for certain players. ‘The Remembering’ marked the conclusion to Dreamlight Valley’s first major story arc, and wrapped up the tale of The Forgotten in a beautiful way – and not without adding some magic from The Fairy Godmother, another beloved classic character to add to the game’s roster.

While it didn’t steal the show, the ‘Wonder of Pixar’ Star Path also brought some great items to the game for players to collect in the background of all the story content we received. The arrival of The Fairy Godmother also solved the mystery of who lived in the giant pumpkin in the Forgotten Lands, wrapping up that loose end alongside the story of The Forgotten. Fans are only hoping we’ll see a story update on this level again sometime in the future, but for now, we’ll just have to hold on to ‘The Remembering’ – but we’re not complaining about that at all.
