The Summer 2025 anime season is about to begin (or may have begun already, based on when you’re reading this), and so, it’s time we compile our list of the anime to watch out for amidst the crowd this season. A seasonal change is upon us, and it’s always a stressful time for anime watchers who want to keep any sense of control over their watch calendars – so we’re here to help!

Today, we’re talking about the most anticipated Summer 2025 anime. We’ve chosen eight upcoming releases that we think are going to make waves this season, and prove themselves worthy of a spot on any anime fan’s watchlist. Summer 2025 anime is looking to have it all, with some great choices for fans of romance, horror, and of course, plenty of action. There’s also a lot of upcoming second seasons of beloved series, which we’ll be including here, so you know what shows you need to catch up on. With that being said, let’s get into our list of the best upcoming Summer 2025 anime shows!

Gachiakuta

It seems like every season nowadays, a new shonen attempting to be the next big thing emerges, and usually, they fail to reach the heights that the industry standard sets for them. However, Gachiakuta looks like it’s going to be absolutely incredible, and is easily the Summer 2025 anime debut that I’m the most excited for. There are so many ongoing shonen series these days that I’m often hesitant to get hyped up for any new shows on the horizon. Gachiakuta’s official trailer, which you can watch here, really won me over with its grit, animation, and pure, fiery intensity.

Gachiakuta‘s manga began publishing back in 2022, and since then, has been praised for its unique blend of shonen tropes and sensibilities, with a very poignant exploration of classism and the wasteful nature of the rich. With a protagonist who doesn’t exactly conform to society’s idea of morality, it’s going to be very interesting to watch how Gachiakuta explores the more nuanced and mature elements of its source material. If you’re a shonen fan, this is definitely the Summer 2025 anime to watch out for. A drastic studio stumble in the only way I can see this underperforming.

Sakamoto Days: Part 2

So, much to many fans’ disappointment, the first part of Sakamoto Days wasn’t the most incredible adaptation of all time. In fact, our review of the series was so middling, it’s hard to believe that I’m actually excited to see this anime come back at all. However, two things have pushed Sakamoto Days: Part 2 into my most anticipated Summer 2025 anime list. Firstly, manga readers have promised that this arc is where the series kicks into a new gear. Secondly, the official trailer is pretty impressive, and definitely looks like Netflix have stepped up on the production side of things.

I do hope that Sakamoto Days can improve its reputation with this upcoming second part. In the build-up to the anime’s initial release, I had heard incredible things about the manga, so to see so much disappointment and mediocrity when it came to the anime was very underwhelming. Hopefully, Part 2 can redeem the series, as right now, it’s looking like Sakamoto Days is the underdog of the Summer 2025 anime line-up.

Call of the Night Season 2

Remember Call of the Night? The series premiered in July 2022, and yet, it feels like so much longer ago that this series graced our screens. However, Summer 2025 marks the return of this show, and I couldn’t be more excited to see it amongst the line-up. For those unfamiliar with the series, now is a good time to get caught up – the show is a slow-burn for the most part, but there’s an undeniable stylishness to the whole anime that is sure to draw you in, at least if it clicks for you.

The story is simple, but effective – a man unable to find joy in his day-to-day life begins wandering the streets at night, eventually happening upon a vampire who agrees to let him become a vampire if he falls in love with her. Not only is the series an exciting new take on the vampire genre, but is also one of the most visually stunning and flashy anime shows in recent years. Be sure to catch up on this one by the time the second season releases as part of the Summer 2025 anime season – I can only see the fanbase growing this season!

Tougen Anki

Tougen Anki may look like a generic shonen in every single way, and to be fair, it probably will be once this anime starts. However, there’s an undeniable coolness to this series that’s going to draw me into tuning in every single week, and I’m not ashamed to say that. The story is structured like all supernatural shonen, but this time, the students have blood powers. If you’ve seen a lot of shonen, then Tougen Anki probably won’t knock your socks off, but boy does it look like a fun time.

Reviews of the manga have compared this series to the likes of Blue Exorcist and Soul Eater, both of which were really fun shows, so I’m excited to see what Tougen Anki brings to the table. Stellar visuals and great voice acting can often turn a generic shonen manga into a really enjoyable anime adaptation, so here’s hoping that the anime-original aspects of this series can make it one of the stand-out shows of the Summer 2025 anime season. Regardless, I’ll be tuning in to see how this all unfolds, and I think you should too!

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity

Like all good anime seasons, the Summer 2025 anime line-up includes a much-anticipated romance anime, for all of you out there who love a good love story. The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity may have a very creepy title, but I’m still excited to see such an unapologetically romance-based anime make so much noise going into the season. In fact, I’m so excited for this show that it made my list of the best upcoming anime of the year overall, not just this season.

For those unfamiliar with this story, it’s essentially a new-age take on the Romeo & Juliet tale, as a boy and a girl fall in love, but find themselves hindered by their connections to their opposing schools. The boy goes to a school known for its delinquency, while the girl attends a prestigious school. Such a simple set-up is actually beneficial when it comes to romance stories, as it allows the audience plenty of time to truly connect with the characters. I definitely recommend you check this one out if you’re a fan of romance anime, as it’s the only real stand-out for that genre this Summer 2025 anime season.

Dandadan Season 2

A major shonen series returning for its second season less than a year after the first season came out? Such timing seems impossible these days, but if there’s any show that loves to challenge conventions, it’s Dandadan. The series exploded in popularity when it debuted back in Fall 2024, renowned for its stunning animation, incredible action sequences, and of course, its unapologetic dedication to being insanely weird. I could not be happier to see Dandadan returning so soon, and I see this being the most watched anime of the season easily.

However, Dandadan is also the only anime on this list where I’ve personally read ahead in the manga, and let me just say – this is going to be an incredible season of anime. I have no worries about Science SARU’s ability to adapt this arc, and the arc itself is an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. Dandadan is shaping up to be one of the best anime on television in a very long time, and I can’t wait to see the second season continue the hype. My most anticipated Summer 2025 anime for sure.

The Summer Hikaru Died

The Summer Hikaru Died intrigues me for multiple reasons. Firstly, it’s a psychological horror-mystery anime, and good anime in this genre are difficult to come by. Secondly, it comes from the team at CygamesPictures, who just recently released Apocalypse Hotel, an anime that I personally thought was very underrated amongst the anime fanbase. There’s not enough chatter surrounding The Summer Hikaru Died going on for me, as I really think this is going to be a very good series when it releases.

The Summer Hikaru Died follows the story of two teenagers, Yoshiki and Hikaru, the latter of which finds himself in a biking accident, only to be possessed by a mysterious entity before passing away. The being retains Hikaru’s personality, and all of his memories, and Yoshiki must navigate their friendship given this new development. The manga has been praised for its emotional storytelling and compelling characters, and I think that this plot has the potential to explore some really interesting cosmic themes, and particularly poignant questions on what it means to be human. I cannot wait for this anime to begin airing as a Summer 2025 anime – I can see it becoming one of my favourites of all time if it lives up to the hype.

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2

The only thing that I hated about Kaiju No. 8 was that it ended where it did. So, naturally, I’m very excited for the series to pick up where it left off, and continue delivering on all of the action-packed and comedic fronts that the first season did. The thing about shonen second seasons is that they often mark the point where a series really comes into its own, with all of the introductory building blocks left behind in the first season. It looks like Kaiju No. 8 will continue this trend in one of the most explosive seasons of the Summer 2025 anime line-up.

Much like Dandadan, Kaiju No. 8 is excellent at blending action and comedy, though it’s not quite as eccentric as Dandadan. If anything though, that might make it more widely accessible to the greater anime fanbase, so if you’ve not tried this series for yourself thus far, I recommend you catch up as soon as possible! In an industry jammed to the brim with shonen series, Kaiju No. 8 is one of the rare stand-outs. Be sure to check it out when the Summer 2025 anime season kicks off.
