New Christmas Movies to Watch in 2024

And Where to Watch Them

The holiday season is here, which means so is a new haul of Christmas movies to indulge yourself in! While some of these are not yet out, so we will not be able to give an opinion of them, others are available to watch right now in the comfort of your own home. From action to romantic comedy, this list has something for everyone. Without further ado lets take a look at some of the new Christmas movies to watch in 2024.

Dear Santa

Ever wondered what happens when you accidentally send misspell Santa on your Christmas card and write Satan instead? Well that is the concept for Dear Santa, and I have to say as ridiculous as it sounds, it really makes for a hilarious family movie to watch this Christmas. Jack Black of course staring as Satan is a match made in heaven, but be prepared for some edgy jokes and toilet humour. The unexpected cameo and twist at the end made this feel like a Tenacious D movie, which I did not hate, was very funny and well executed.

Our Little Secret

Our Little Secret is a film about 2 ex best friends and star crossed lovers who are dating members of the same family and try to hide the fact they used to date. Moments of this film are pretty funny and memorable but I have to say, while you would believe the two main characters could be best friends they have absolutely zero chemistry when it comes to the star crossed lovers part of the film – it actually felt awkwardly forced when they had any little moments.

Stream Our Little Secret on Netflix now.

Red One

It’s almost Christmas and Santa has been kidnapped(?), that means its up the our favourite elf Dwayne Johnson(?) to save him with the help of a notorious hacker. This is a very bizarre plot but I would be lying if I said the weirdness did not colour me intrigued. At first glance Red One seems to be a bit of a money grabber, hiring ridiculous amounts of big Hollywood names just for the sake of it, unfortunately according to reviews it looks like exactly that – perhaps they spent so much budget on actors they forgot to hire decent writers. However, the concept is a fun one, so us at Nerdy Nook think it could still be worth the watch when it finally releases on Prime Video.

Red One is currently still in cinemas but is expected to release on Prime Video anytime soon.

A Sudden Case of Christmas

If you thought that supermarkets started with the Christmas cheer early, then this one will seem crazy to you. A Sudden Case of Christmas is a about a family who announce to their daughter they are separating while visiting her grandad in Italy. In a desperate attempt to get them back together, and with the help of her grandfather, she encourages them all to celebrate one last Christmas together… in August. A Sudden Case of Christmas also sees the return of a Christmas legend in my eyes, after staring as leading roles in both Deck The Halls and Batman Returns, Danny DeVito, which gets it the thumbs up from me.

A Sudden Case of Christmas is not on streaming but can be rented or purchased on Prime Video, Microsoft Store, Apple TV and more.

That Christmas

From the writers of Love Actually comes another another film of entwined stories about love, loneliness, friends and families. When Wellington-on-Sea see’s the worst snowstorm in history, everyone’s Christmas plans erratically change, including Santa’s. That Christmas is the one I am most excited for this year, the overall story looks very good and the animation is absolutely beautiful.

That Christmas is out on Netflix on December 4th.

Nutcrackers

When four kids lose their parents and their rich workaholic uncle is forced to look after them, nothing but chaos arises. While Nutcrackers is not exactly your stereotypical Christmas movie, the story is a sad but hilarious concept and is sure to provide a fun family night in this Holiday season – just make sure to tell your kids not to try any of the things these kids do at home, especially if you have golf carts or tractors lying around.

Nutcrackers is out now on Disney Plus and Hulu.

The Merry Gentleman

A Broadway dancer sets out to save her parents performing venue, with a Christmas themed show with male strippers. I am sure I do not need to expand on this plot any further, besides that is pretty much it! The Merry Gentleman is another romantic comedy so, as expected, is funny and a little emotional at time – though due to the sexual undertones in this movie it is far from a family fun time.

Stream The Merry Gentleman on Netflix now.

Conclusion

This year has a lot of Christmas movies releasing of all different genres, though a lot of these titles have that ‘cringey Hallmark style holiday movie’ vibe – you know, the ones that you enjoy watching at the time because it fits the Christmas spirit, but looking back on them they are kind of bad. That being said, there is still more to release this December so we can still hold out hope. What has been your favourite Christmas movie to release this year so far? Are their any you would like a sequel of? Let us know in the comments section.
