New Christmas Movies to Watch in 2025

And Where to Watch Them

‘Tis the season, which means it’s time to dust off those festive DVD’s we’ve been hoarding for years and get into the spirit. Though the classic Christmas movies like Home Alone or Jingle All the Way have solidified their ways into our yearly traditions, there are always some new ones to kick off the festive cheer. Unfortunately, this year is really slacking on this front, but amongst the pool of garbage is definitely a few titles we think are worth the watch this Christmas.

Below is our list of new Christmas movies to watch in 2025, some are cringe but fun typical Hallmark movies, while others are pure gold you will find yourself watching for years to come.

Jingle Bell Heist

New Christmas Movies to Watch in 2025 - Jingle Bell Heist

Starting the list with one of the better releases this year, we have Jingle Bell Heist. This movie is far from perfect, with too many twists (four to be exact), and a few plot points which are just unseen, but all in all, was quite a fun watch. The comedic moments were not too over the top, and the main character’s relationship was believable.

I will say, Christmas is not exactly a crucial plot point of this movie. In fact, it probably would have worked being set on any other day of the year – with a different title of course!

Oh. What. Fun.

The best Christmas release this year is, undoubtedly, Oh. What. Fun. This movie takes a unique approach to the festive genre by focusing on an everyday housewife, who is pushed to her limits when trying to host the perfect Christmas for her family. The story was tons of fun, and Michelle Pfeiffer was such a perfect choice for the leading role, and the excellent casting did not stop there. Danielle Brooks, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Denis Leary are among the other big and brilliant names that star.

Oh. What. Fun. really struck a chord with me, while I sit here, watching my wife go absolutely crazy preparing to give our daughter the best very first Christmas possible. It made me really think about, and appreciate, what mum’s everywhere go through this time of year! Christmas truly is a magical time of year, but that magic begins with our parents.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas

Another rom-com to ring in the festive season (yes, there are a lot of those this year), is A Merry Little Ex-mas. This one is for you Hallmark Christmas movie lovers (hi Mum). it’s super cheesy, but light-hearted, and very easy to watch. Two characters in particular really made this movie an enjoyable experience; Chet, a super-sexy man, of many talents and jobs, and Nigel, an unusual Harry Potter fan, who is dating the main character’s daughter.

As the title suggests, A Merry Little Ex-Mas is about a separated couple, in the process of divorce, who struggle to work together to give their children a very merry Christmas, but in the process, come to realise why their marriage fell apart. Though this was not the best film out there, Oliver Hudson and Alicia Silverstone had a really sweet, believable on-screen chemistry, which did manage to bring a tear to my eye.

Merv

This one is currently not out just yet, so I cannot give too much of a recommendation, but honestly, the trailer is fantastic, and the story is just so wholesome, we’re nearly positive it’s going to be good! Merv is about a couple who break up, and their dog, Merv, is not handling it so well. So, they decide to take Merv on a holiday together to cheer him up, but in the process, might fix more than just their sad dog.

I love a Christmas rom-com, and this one has such potential, with rom-com icon Zooey Deschanel and the charming, talented Charlie Cox playing the leading roles. The concept of the film will hinge on the great chemistry between the two main characters, and from the looks of the trailer, they have just that.

Merv releases on Prime Video on December 10th.

A Very Jonas Christmas Movie

This one is not really to my taste, but for those of you secret Jonas Brothers fans out there, we’ve got something special for you – A Very Jonas Christmas Movie. The plot for this one is pretty run-of-the-mill – it’s literally just about the Jonas Brothers trying to make it home for Christmas. Nothing particularly special for your average viewer, but Jonas Brothers fans are likely to have a great time.

One thing these movie does have going for it is the essence of nostalgia. I don’t mean just for Jonas Brother fans, but for anyone who grew up in the 90s or even early 2000s, where every pop group were releasing a movie of their own, including S-Club and Spice Girls. A Very Jonas Christmas Movie is a call-back to the good old days, and that is something that I can get behind, no matter how cringe the movie may be!

Disney’s Hulu’s Family Guy Hallmark Channel’s Lifetime’s Familiar Holiday Movie

Next up, we have Disney’s Hulu’s Family Guy Hallmark Channel’s Lifetime’s Familiar Holiday Movie – try saying that after a glass of eggnog! Though this entry calls itself a movie, it is just a standard-length episode of Family Guy. However, since this year has been somewhat lacking that exciting holiday content we all so desperately crave, we thought it would be best to include it on the list.

This episode of Family Guy, does an incredible job of mocking those really corny Hallmark movies we all love to hate-watch. For me, those movies have become an essential part of Christmas, since my mother would watch them daily from about September time – it was a brilliant idea bringing those traditions to a new format, where we can all share a laugh about it!

Conclusion

This year may not have a lot of new Christmas movies for us to indulge in. In fact, a lot of the ones we have suggested may not be worth the time of day for some of you out there. There are however, in amongst the slosh, some that shine, capturing the very essence of Christmas, and will be watched for years to come.
