June 2024 Summary

The gaming industry has already been flooded with news as of late since the recent events at Summer Game Fest, and now, Nintendo has taken the spotlight to host an event of their own. It’s been a while since we were last treated to a Nintendo Direct – February 2024 to be exact – so Nintendo fans were undoubtedly waiting to see what would be unveiled at this showcase. It was confirmed that there would be no mention of Nintendo’s next console at this Direct, but that doesn’t mean there was any shortage of big announcements for the Switch in its final stages – so without further ado, let’s get into all the action at June 2024’s Nintendo Direct!


Nintendo Direct

Mario and Luigi: Brothership

In typical Nintendo Direct fashion, the showcase kicked off with a massive announcement – a new Mario title! The game has been announced for November 7 2024, and will be the first entry in the Mario and Luigi franchise in almost nine years. We also were treated to some gameplay, which demonstrated that Mario and Luigi: Brothership will feature both platforming and combat elements. Definitely a strong start for the event!

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition

Up next was a new trailer for Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, a game all about speedrunning your way through classic Nintendo titles from, you guessed it, the NES. There’ll be 13 retro titles to choose from included in this collection, and ‘party mode’ will allow up to 8 players to play at once. The game is set to release on July 18 2024, and can be digitally pre-ordered now!

Fairy Tail 2

Big news for JRPG fans, and fans of the Fairy Tail anime came up next, with the announcement of Fairy Tail 2, a strategy game based on the events of the Alvarez arc of the series. Make sure to check out the gameplay trailer for this explosive new title, and get ready for its release in Winter 2024.

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension

From the creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, comes this next title, FANTASIAN Neo Dimension, a turn-based RPG where you’ll fight for the survival of humanity against a world-ending threat. This exciting title is set to launch on Nintendo Switch in Holiday 2024 – mark your calendars!

Nintendo Switch Sports

An exciting update has been announced for Nintendo Switch Sports fans – this Summer, basketball will be added to the roster of playable sports in this title. Be sure to check out the game now, and get ready to shoot some hoops when this update drops!

MIO: Memories in Orbit

We have very little information on this next title as of now, but MIO: Memories in Orbit looks like a beautiful platforming experience, akin to other incredible titles like Gris and the Ori franchise. For now, all we know is that the game is due to release in 2025 – keep an eye out for more news on this mysterious title!

Disney: Illusion Island

A new update has been announced for Disney: Illusion Island. The update, titled Mystery in Monoth, will feature a detective dolphin who our heroes must assist in solving a mystery. The update is available right now, so be sure to go check it out!

Hello Kitty: Island Adventure

Fans of the mobile game, Hello Kitty: Island Adventure, will be glad to know that the title is coming to Nintendo Switch, though we will have to wait until next year. The game will also come to Xbox and PlayStation down the line, but Switch players will have timed exclusive access to the game first when it releases – be sure to check it out!

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports

Another sports game announcement, as Direct viewers were treated to a new trailer for Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports, an arcade collection of four different sports minigames, all with a Looney Tunes chaotic twist. The title will launch on Nintendo Switch this fall season. Not long to wait!

Among Us

A new update for Among Us was announced next – the free update will include new roles for crewmates and impostors, breathing new life into the title once again. The update dropped on the same day as the Direct, so Among Us fans can dive into the action right now!

Farmagia

Up next was the announcement trailer for Farmagia, a game where you’ll raise an army of monsters in a farming-simulator type experience – serious Pokémon vibes with this one! The game looks like an absolute blast, and luckily, we don’t have long to wait to dive into the action – the game is coming to Nintendo Switch on November 1 2024 – be sure to mark the date!

Donkey Kong Country: Returns (HD)

Though not a new Donkey Kong title like many had hoped, fans of the franchise were still represented at today’s Direct, as Donkey Kong Country: Returns will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch in January 2025. The graphics have been improved, and the game will feature all the titles from the Wii original, as well as the bonus levels from the 3DS release – lots of content to look forward to!

Dragon Quest Remakes

More remake goodness was up next – what began as an announcement trailer for a HD remake of Dragon Quest III, which was already big news on its own, quickly evolved into an announcement trailer for remakes of the entire original saga, including Dragon Quest I and II – huge news for fans of the franchise. The Dragon Quest III remake will arrive on November 14 2024, and the other two releases in the saga will release in 2025.

Funko Fusion

We then got a release date for the upcoming Funko Fusion action adventure game, where you’ll play as – you guessed it – Funko Pop characters! There’s a ton of different licensed worlds and characters to explore, and you can dive right into the experience on Nintendo Switch on September 13 2024!

Luigi’s Mansion 2 (HD)

The long-awaited HD remaster of Luigi’s Mansion 2 is finally up for pre-order, with a release date of June 27 2024. Fans of this beloved franchise should be sure to check this one out when it drops later this month – many missed this title due to its 3DS-exclusivity until now. Bringing the title to Switch will hopefully open the game up to a whole new group of fans.

The New Denpa Men 

This quirky title was announced to launch on July 27 2024 on Nintendo Switch – we’ll have to wait for release to be able to say more about this one, as very little was revealed with this trailer – but it definitely looks like a lot of fun!

Metal Slug: Attack Reloaded

More exciting news as Metal Slug: Attack Reloaded got a launch trailer, meaning that the title is available to play on Nintendo Switch right now! Arcade-style action game fans should be sure to check this one out as soon as possible!

Darkest Dungeon 2

Fans of roguelike Darkest Dungeon will be glad to know that it’s getting a sequel, and they won’t have long to wait! The sequel game, Darkest Dungeon 2 will drop on Nintendo Switch on July 15 2024 – the art style looks as great as ever, so be sure to check this one out this Summer!

Nintendo Switch Online Update

Owners of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack also got some great news at this Direct – Nintendo announced that four new classic titles will be added to the pack – The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Four Swords, Metroid: Zero Mission, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter – and they’re available right now! If you’re looking for a blast to the past, check them out now!

Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

Another announcement trailer here, with this one being for a new, very cute adventure game called Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero. Prepare to turn the tide of battle in this pirate-themed adventure when it drops on Nintendo Switch in 2025!

Marvel VS. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

Fighting game fans can rejoice with this announcement, as this collection combines seven arcade classics from the Marvel VS. Capcom series into one crazy experience. Nintendo knew just what they were doing with the music they chose to show off in this trailer, so fans of the franchise should get hyped to dive into this title in 2024!

Super Mario Party: Jamboree

As soon as Kamek flew into frame for this next trailer, Mario Party fans knew they were in for a treat! In what has been named the biggest Mario Party title yet, this game will treat us to tons of minigames, new boards, and innovative gameplay like we’ve never seen before in the franchise. Super Mario Party: Jamboree is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 17 2024 – get ready to party!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Two huge announcements back-to-back here! In this new title in The Legend of Zelda franchise, Zelda will be taking centre-stage in a brand new, Link’s Awakening-style adventure. Be ready to step into the shoes of Princess Zelda herself when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases on September 26 2024! A new Nintendo Switch styled after the game will release alongside the game on release day, so be sure to pick it up if you like your consoles to be as stylish as the games you play on them!

Just Dance: 2025 Edition

A new Just Dance game is coming this year, featuring tons of new songs, including some of the biggest chart-topping hits today! The game is set to release this October – get your dancing shoes ready!

Stray

Game of the Year candidate, Stray, will be arriving on Nintendo Switch during this holiday season – if you haven’t checked out this game, now is the time! Nintendo fans will be overjoyed to know that they can finally access the game on Switch later this year.

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game

Lord of the Rings fans can get more and more excited about this new title, with this new showcase trailer for Tales of the Shire. This cozy life-sim sees you live out your fantasy life as a hobbit, and to say it looks like an adorable experience is an understatement. The game will be released this holiday season – get excited!

Ace Attorney: Investigations Collection

Lots of exciting news for franchise-fans at this Direct, as Ace Attorney fans have been treated to an announcement trailer for the Investigations Collection, a collection game that will combine two Ace Attorney titles into one – and it’s coming on September 6 2024! If you pre-order, you also get access to a music collection from the game!

The Hundred Line: Last Defence Academy

This Danganronpa-style experience is looking like a lot of fun – and as announced in today’s Direct, the title will release in early 2025! Be ready to dive into a new story-driven game, with cute, but undoubtedly menacing enemies!

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

This turn-based strategy game also received an announcement trailer at today’s showcase – be ready to rule and expand over a world of kingdoms in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven – and it’s coming soon! The game will release in October 2024 on Nintendo Switch.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

And, in typical Nintendo Direct fashion, Nintendo knew how to close out the show with a bang! Metroid Prime 4 was first announced years ago – in 2017 to be exact – and finally, we have our first look at the much anticipated title. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will release in 2025 – and we will happily wait for what promises to be a game-changer!
