Party Games to Play This Christmas

Online or In-Person

It’s time to host your annual Christmas hangout, but this year you want to take a step back from hosting the entertainment, and let the TV do all the work. Or, perhaps you’re preparing something online in Discord, or on your live stream? Well look no further, every game in this list can not only be enjoyed in-person but can also be played remotely for those holiday Discord hangouts or special Christmas streams. Whether you’re looking for classic party games to play this Christmas, or something a bit niche, we’ve got you covered below!

1. Charades

2. Gartic.io

3. Bingo

4. Jackbox

Charades

As a kid, Charades was my family’s go-to party game, especially around Christmas. This one does, of course, require people to see you, so if you are doing this as part of a Discord hangout, be sure the participants have cameras. Thinking of a prompt can often be a frustrating task – luckily enough Play-Charades is a handy site where you can generate random prompts to act out.

If you are a streamer, there is an even better, Twitch-friendly version of the game which reads chat, stops the round when someone has typed the correct answer, and then awards points to your viewers. If this piques your interest, be sure to check out Da Stream Charades.

Gartic.io

Gartic.io is quite simply an online version Pictionary. You are able to easily host your own lobby, on either your computer or via the Android or Apple app, and share the code with your friends so they can join. There are many online versions of Pictionary, but we believe this one to be the best since the experience on mobile is a smooth one, making it even easier to host in-person.

Onrizon have a few versions of Gartic, so if you are looking for a little more, just check out their website here – if you are a streamer, Gartic Phone is a super fun one to play with chat, and has great options for moderation, making sure your stream does not go too far off the rails.

Bingo

Another classic on this list, Bingo! But, who said Bingo has to be played with numbers? Bingo Baker is a cool website which allows you to create your own personalised Bingo cards, generating one at random using all your prompts. This can be easily used alongside a movie, or throughout the night as your friends do silly stuff.

There are already lots of user made bingo cards on the site to choose from if you are not up to making your own or you are little short for time – to give you an idea, use this Home Alone card while you watch along with friends.

Jackbox

We saved the best till last, since Jackbox can almost do everything on the list above, and more! If Pictionary is usually your go to party game, make sure to check out one of the Drawful games – if Charades took your fancy, Blather Round is a text based alternative – there are so many different games across the Jackbox catalogue to choose from, you are sure to have a great time, even if you buy just one pack this holiday season.

It’s no secret that Jackbox is a great game to play with friends – this is the third time we’ve talked about it on Nerdy Nook – but what you might not know is that Jackbox allows you to play custom episodes, and even make your own for a more personalised party experience. We’ve listed a few holiday episodes below to get you into the spirit, including an episode of Quiplash 2 made by us!

Quiplash 2

A Very Nerdy (Nook) Xmas – EHY-NTEC
