The Biggest Highlights from State of Play
State of Play, June 2 2026
As we head into a gaming-filled summer, leave it to PlayStation to kick the festivities off with a bang. Gamers have gotten used to disappointment in recent years; I can’t remember the last time I was honestly impressed by a gaming showcase, whether it’s a Nintendo Direct, The Game Awards, or even Summer Game Fest itself, and it’s certainly been a long time since a State of Play was able to capture my attention throughout its entire runtime. With that being said, I’m happy to say that the June 2, 2026 State of Play has changed the game for me. What an incredible showcase!
Today, we’re looking back on all of the highlights from June 2’s State of Play. If you missed the showcase, feel free to read ahead to get a recap on all of the action, though I also encourage you to watch the showcase for yourself! It was a really good one! There’s a lot of games to watch out for during the rest of 2026, and the start of 2027, so without further ado, let’s get into our list!
Rayman: Legends Retold

Rayman is a franchise that’s sort of fallen by the wayside over the years, so it was amazing to see it get such a highlight spot during this jam-packed State of Play. Rayman: Legends Retold is a remake of the beloved 2013 original, a universally acclaimed platforming classic. With remastered visuals, the enhancement of co-op features, and the addition of a brand new world, this upcoming remake has the potential to completely revitalise Rayman’s place in the current pop-culture landscape.
The game is set to release this August, and though I’m certainly excited to play Legends Retold itself, I’m perhaps more excited about this game potentially bringing life back into this franchise, and maybe getting us on track for a sequel in the years to come. Rayman fans, make sure you show up for this game! Let’s get this franchise back in action!

Stuntman: Hollywood

When the trailer for Stuntman: Hollywood first hit the screen, I’ll admit, I thought I was in for a bathroom break. Racing games have never really been my game, at least unless you’re talking about Mario Kart. Then, I started to recognise a number of movie references, references to cinema classics like Fast & Furious and Back to the Future. I could hardly believe it when the words ‘Stuntman’ appeared on my screen, considering the last time that this franchise released a title was back in 2007.
Stuntman: Hollywood marks a fresh new twist for this franchise, given that it seems they’ve finally been able to collab with real-life film franchises for players to carry out stunts for. The gameplay looks absolutely thrilling, with all of the beloved Stuntman physics back at play. We don’t have an exact release date for this game quite yet, but it was certainly a very pleasant surprise for anyone who was lucky enough to experience this franchise back in the day.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

September is absolutely stacked with new releases after this State of Play, huh? Now, with that being said, I’ll admit that I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard ‘Capcom’ mentioned during the broadcast; that Code Veronica remake is coming soon, I just know it! While my Resident Evil dreams weren’t realised this time, we still got some very exciting news about Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a game that has been teased for quite a while now, but finally has an official release date – September 25, 2026
If that wasn’t enough, Way of the Sword also has an official demo out right now for PS5 users – you gotta love when an announcement has the words ‘out now’ in it during one of these events! It’s almost surreal that players can finally get their hands on this game, even if it’s only a demo, and I’m very excited to hear what players have to say about this upcoming Capcom title over the next few days. Keep an eye on this one!

Silent Hill: Townfall

Here’s the thing – I absolutely love the Silent Hill franchise, and I’ll always be excited to hear more about any new franchise entries. With that being said, it’s not a franchise free of stinkers, and Konami’s willingness to constantly hand off the franchise to new developers likely contributes to this. So, when Silent Hill: Townfall was first announced back at the February State of Play, I was a little skeptical. The environments and story always looked intriguing, but I was unsure about the shift to a first-person perspective, and the focus on stealth gameplay to such a large degree.
So, why is Silent Hill: Townfall on our list today? Well, at this State of Play, we were treated to a fresh new trailer for the upcoming horror title, and now, I’m much more convinced that we could be looking at an incredible game here. Now, I’m still more excited about the remake of the first game that Bloober are working on, but I’m sure that this game will hold me over until then. Also announced at this State of Play was a release date for the game, so we’ll be able to get our hands on it in September 24, 2026.

The Lost Wild

I feel like video games have never really capitalised on just how terrifying dinosaurs can be – until now. The Lost Wild was one of the more original announcements during this State of Play, and I’m happy to say that this title looks like a mixture of Jurassic Park and Alien: Isolation, which seems like an undeniably incredible combination from the jump. There were quite a few jumpy moments in this trailer alone, so I can’t wait to find out more about this game.
Unfortunately, there’s no official release date for The Lost Wild just yet, but that’s to be expected when a game is so early in development. What we do know is that this survival horror game will be coming to PS5 in 2027, so we’ll have a little bit to wait. I’m willing to hold out for this game though, so they can really refine this potentially terrifying experience. Finally, dinosaurs are getting the attention in the horror industry that they deserve!

Until Dawn 2

So, there were two absolutely huge announcements during this State of Play for me, and this was the first of the two. Over ten years since the original game’s release, Until Dawn 2 is on its way, though we will have to wait until 2027. Now, I have a complex relationship with this announcement. First of all, there’s no connection between this upcoming title and Supermassive Games, the developers of the original title, which is a little worrying. However, given their recent work on the Dark Pictures games, maybe their absence here is promising.
Secondly, the vibe here is totally different than the first game, focusing on a group of teens in a summer setting, as opposed to the iconic winter cabin from the original. Now, I’m not opposed to a vibe switch-up, but why exactly are we calling this Until Dawn 2? Given the fact that the Until Dawn movie just grabbed the title as a way to get attention, I’m hoping that’s not the case here. Still, I’m very excited about this game, and the trailer does look like a lot of classic, campy fun. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on this one.

Marvel’s Wolverine

PlayStation have taken on Insomniac’s Marvel games as their greatest assets in recent years, and for good reason. The Spider-Man games have all been incredible, and fans have been waiting so long for the studio to take on the Wolverine mythos, that it’s no surprise this new gameplay showcase was one of State of Play’s biggest highlights. We knew this showcase was coming, as it was the main advertised property ahead of time. However, I wasn’t ready for how great this game looks.
This new trailer is jam-packed with everything fans could want from a Wolverine video game. Body parts are flying, the X-Men are out in full-force, and somehow, the gameplay is just as exhilarating as the Spider-Man games, even in the absence of all of that web-swinging. Fans were treated to a full 7-minute showcase of all-new content, including a guest appearance by Jean Grey. This one is worth watching for yourself, even if you skip out on the rest of the trailers from the event, so check it out below!

God of War: Laufey

This State of Play was already pretty good before the event’s final announcement, so Sony really spoiled us with this one. When our host announced that we were about to get 20-minutes of uninterrupted gameplay from a new title, I didn’t expect much. After all, these events usually go off on a fairly subdued note. I would never have expected to get a look at a brand new God of War sequel, nevermind the first 20-minutes of the game in full. And it looks absolutely glorious.
God of War: Laufey follows Kratos’ late wife, Faye, as she journeys through a whole new world, one that departs completely from the Norse mythology that the past two games have explored. The gameplay that was shown during this ‘trailer’ was absolutely incredible, the most refined version of a system that already worked flawlessly for this franchise. While we don’t have any sort of release date announced, I’m more than happy to wait for this one. This is undoubtedly a contender for Game of the Year, whenever PlayStation decides to give it to us, and in a State of Play that was already pretty strong, it soared above the rest of the announcements with ease.
