The Cold Witch #5 Review
Spoiler Free Review
It’s finally here, after five months of solid releases, today The Cold Witch concludes with The Cold Witch #5! The Shrouded College series has exceeded all our expectations, but The Cold Witch has gone above and beyond to shown us what The Shrouded College has to offer. Todays issue was no exception to that. Of course, with this story coming to a close (for now), we have a lot to discuss. So lets get into our review of The Cold Witch #5!
In Nerdy Nook fashion, this review will be spoiler free, although we advise that you read the previous issue before continuing as what we discuss below might spoil that.
The Review

Last issue we saw Violleta bound with the Cold Witch, giving her all the witches powers and creating a new enemy for The Shrouded College, Cold Violet. After she spared Sebastian’s life, Sebastian opened a portal giving Cold Violet a quick route to the college to seek her revenge. The Cold Witch #5 picks up right where we left off. Cold Violet breaks into the college, and things escalate at an alarming rate.
The Cold Witch has set up for this explosive end since its first issue, but nothing could quite prepare me for where the story was heading. Firstly, I did not expect Violleta to use the Cold Witches powers by literally becoming a new host to these unearthly powers. Then there is how this whole time I have been routing for her, saddened by her story, to avenge her love only to now see her as a villain. It is quite clear already after the last 3 chapters in The Shrouded College that The College are not exactly nice people, but there is a fine line between good and evil that Violetta had unfortunately let herself cross.
That is the most beautiful thing about The Cold Witch though, the journey from hero to villain, this beautifully tragic story of a woman who’s whole world comes crashing down and she loses herself in the thick of it. Charles Soule and Will Sliney have done an incredible job of making this comic and The Shrouded College something so fun to read and completely unique, the sheer talent these two individuals have demonstrated every issue was truly inspirational and made for a compelling read I will not soon forget.

The one place The Cold Witch #5 shines is of course its artwork by Will Sliney that has been brought to life by the incredibly talented Rachelle Rosenberg. The gore will make you stomach churn, the action will have you fixated, but most of all, the fear that Cold Violet will instil on you look into those cold unfeeling eyes – incredible.
One thing I will say about this series, and this is not exactly a negative but I feel as though its a good point of discussion… I have absolutely no idea who to root for here. The College are terrible people for the way they go about their business, but Cold Violet is not exactly a beacon of hope. At the start I really did feel sorry for Violleta but now its so hard to push aside what she’s done but I do not want The College to win this war either, that just seems bad too. The only person I trust is right now is Sebastian so I am just kind of following his lead on it. Despite the fact he’s essential the colleges little gopher, he seems to be doing it for all the right reasons, his family, but I guess we will just have to wait and see where the next part of the story takes us.
The Cold Witch #5, as expected, really ups the pace but not in the way you would expect, it contributed more to the universe in which The Shrouded College is set in. It ended in such a way that has given so much potential for creativity to fly throughout the rest of The Shrouded College and in turn has given readers a clearer picture of where the anthology is heading. Though I am sad that this part of the story has come to an end, I cannot wait for the next instalment Empire of Ash.

The Cold Witch: A Tale of the Shrouded College #5 concludes this series in an explosive and complex way giving the rest of The Shrouded College anthology so much potential to become a true icon in this genre. It is everything you could ever ask for in a comic, exceptional work all around.
