Batman: Arkham Knight

Games Turning 10 - Arkham Knight

There was a real excitement in the air when Batman: Arkham Knight released. The Arkham games had made history as one of the most popular and well-renowned gaming franchises, and one of the most popular portrayals of Batman, of all time. Arkham Knight marked the end of a journey, and it was up to Rocksteady to conclude the saga, to finish the story of one of the most beloved superhero properties of all time. While some may feel that Arkham Knight failed to deliver the perfect conclusion to the Arkham franchise, it absolutely made history as one of the greatest superhero games of all time, and one of the best games turning 10 in 2025.

Batman: Arkham Knight is a massive game, with a sprawling story that allowed players to explore the entirety of Gotham City for the first time in the franchise, featuring a bunch of side missions showcasing Batman‘s most iconic villains, as well as some of his more underrated antagonists. The game also featured a huge amount of DLC, allowing players to take control of various Batman allies in their own miniature stories. Batman: Arkham Knight may not be the most universally-beloved game in the Arkham franchise, but it was still an incredible game, and worthy of a spot on our tenth anniversary list.

Life Is Strange

Life Is Strange is far from the first choose-your-own-adventure, story-based game to grace gaming (and to be brutally honest, it’s far from the most well-written), but wow, did it solidify itself as one of the most iconic outings in the genre. With its memorable characters, emotional storytelling, and beautiful scenery, Life Is Strange has become the ultimate cozy game for many, and has more than earned a spot as one of the pioneers of the genre.

Though many sequels have released under the Life Is Strange umbrella, some of which have been more well-received than others, the original game remains the essential pick for anyone looking to get into the franchise. There’s a certain charm to the original that none of the sequels, or even the remastered version that released in 2022, has been able to replicate. There’s a layer of teenage cringe that players will have to brave when faced with Life Is Strange, but the game has more than earned its status as one of the most iconic games in the past decade, and certainly a spot on this list of games turning 10 in 2025.

Bloodborne

It’s a shame to see one of FromSoftware’s greatest games slowly morph into one of its most neglected in the past decade. However, no matter how much Sony tries to leave Bloodborne in the past, it remains one of the most iconic RPGs of all time, and easily the most universally-acclaimed ‘Soulslike’ game of all time.

The Dark Souls franchise follows a gameplay formula. However, no other game in the franchise has managed to perfect that formula, and combine it with an incredible environment, like Bloodborne has. Every area is perfectly planned-out, every boss is treated with the utmost care in their design, and every weapon in the game feels like it packs a punch. Though we love Elden Ring and Dark Souls, Bloodborne remains as the ‘perfect’ FromSoftware game, and with it being one of the games turning 10 this year, a remake, or at least a port, has never been more justified.

Mortal Kombat X

With the recent announcement of the end of Mortal Kombat 1‘s content-cycle, many players have begun to look to the past, at the glory days of old for the Mortal Kombat franchise. Whilst Mortal Kombat (2011) marked the revival of the series, it was Mortal Kombat X that solidified the franchise’s return to the top of the fighting-game industry. With its grungy visuals, amplified fatalities, and a fan-pleasing roster of characters, Mortal Kombat X remains one of the most iconic games in the franchise.

As well as delivering a solid gaming experience, Mortal Kombat X would also influence the future of the series by introducing new mainstay characters such as D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn, and the Kombat Kids, and while these characters were initially met with some pushback, it’s safe to say that their absence from the franchise has been felt in the wake of Mortal Kombat 1′s downfall. Every Mortal Kombat game has its issues, but compared to where we are now, Mortal Kombat X represents a far better time for the franchise, and as one of the games turning 10 this year, it’s a good time to look back on the title and see where the franchise can improve as it moves into the future.

Until Dawn

Where Life Is Strange is a story-based choice game focused on unwinding and experiencing the story at your own pace, Until Dawn is a story-based choice game focused on keeping you on edge the entire time, and forcing you to rely on your wits and reaction-time to keep its large cast of characters alive throughout one, horror-filled night. With every character’s fate left in your hands, the decisions made in Until Dawn feel like they hold real weight, and much like Life Is Strange, no sequel released by Supermassive Games in the years since have managed to come close to the impact of the original.

As a horror fan, I may hold some bias, but I truly believe Until Dawn to be a near-perfect game. The game’s story can get a little muddled at times, and some of the jumpscares can toe the line between effective and cheap a little too closely, it remains one of my favourite choice games, horror games, and just overall games of all time. If you’re a fan of the slasher genre, and feel like fighting your way through your own version of one, then this is the game for you. Easily one of my favourite games turning 10 this year.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

We can’t talk about 2015 games without mentioning one of the most renowned games to come from that year, if not all time. With a sequel on the horizon, and its tenth anniversary upon us, there’s no better time to dive into one of the greatest action-RPGs of all time, The Witcher 3, than now. The game’s open-world is incredible, its combat is captivating, its story is top-notch – there’s really nothing to dislike about The Witcher 3, and unlike some of the other entries on our list, I feel that this game appeals to gamers of all sorts.

To top off the incredible base-game, The Witcher 3 also includes an array of dark-fantasy inspired side quests and DLC packages, all of which are worth your time outside of the main plot. Out of all of the games turning 10 this year, this is the one I recommend to new gamers the most, but be warned! You’ll be sinking a lot of hours into this game if it manages to hook you, but they’ll be hours well-spent.

SOMA

I had to include at least one survival-horror game on this list, and considering this title comes to us from Frictional Games, the team behind the Amnesia franchise, you can be sure that this game will bring the scares. However, where SOMA succeeds for me is in its storyline, which tells one of the most frightening, devastating, and unequivocally disturbing tales in gaming history. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you can brave it, I guarantee SOMA’s story is going to leave a mark on you that you won’t soon get rid of.

It’s hard to believe this game came out 10 years ago, considering how visually beautiful it is. On top of its story and visuals though, the gameplay manages to split itself perfectly between narrative-focused puzzle-solving, and straight-up, run for your life horror gameplay. SOMA’s monster design is terrifying, and you’ll find yourself genuinely dreading each and every encounter with the game’s many foes. If you haven’t experienced SOMA for yourself, it’s a must-play for survival-horror fans. If you can’t brave it though, just know – it is by far one of the most unique and compelling games turning 10 this year.

Undertale

What better game to end our list on than one of the most beloved indie-games of all time, a title that has gained such a cult-following over the past decade that it’s hard to believe it all started with one developer. Undertale is a pixel-RPG that quickly redefined the genre. The game is not only compelling from a combat point-of-view, but also tells a heartfelt story, includes player-choice in its outcomes, and most uniquely of all, is actually very funny. There are few games that can be called a ‘masterpiece’, but undoubtedly, Undertale falls into that category.

With Deltarune finally seeing an official release in 2025, there’s no better time to go back and re-visit Undertale, or even play it for the first time if you’ve never had the chance to dive into it yet. If nothing else, that incredible soundtrack will be stuck in your head on a permanent basis. Out of all of the games turning 10 on this list, Undertale is the most impressive for its music, comedy, storyline, gameplay, and supporting all of this, the fact that it all started with one man, Toby Fox.
