Absolute Wonder Woman #5

Spoiler Free Review

Rating: 10 out of 10.

Another Wednesday, which means not only a new bunch of comics hit the shelves, but the next instalment of the Absolute universe is here, Absolute Wonder Woman #5. While this series has been not quite what I had expected for the most part, the last 2 issues brought so much to the table it is getting hard not to enjoy – a slow but incredible burner. Will the pace continue? Lets find out in the Absolute Wonder Woman #5 review.

In Nerdy Nook fashion, this review will be spoiler free, but make sure you have read through the previous issues before continuing. This is the only warning I will give, so consider yourself warned.

The Review

Absolute Wonder Woman #5 see’s the end of The Last Amazon arc as Diana continues to battle the terrifying Tetracide. When all else fails, what can Diana do to finally defeat this beast? With little to no time left and all at stake Diana must come up with a plan fast.

No one likes to talk about the elephant in the room, but with reviews it is important to keep an open mind and be honest to you, our readers. With that being said, lets address the elephant in the room! Why on earth is Wonder Woman still fighting this big ugly beast after 3 comics? To be clear, my issue is not the story here, my issue is the fact that I am being subjected to looking at that disgusting face 3 months in a row. I really thought the powerful blow Wonder Woman gave the Tetracide last issue would have done it but not quite it would seem.

Despite how long this battle has gone on, Absolute Wonder Woman #5 brings that to a shocking and incredible end. The direction this took was far better than I had expected and brought so much to the table when looking towards the future of the Absolute Wonder Woman universe.

In my previous review of this series, I expressed that I believe the Absolute version of Wonder Woman might be a little too overpowered, and unfortunately, I still believe this to be the case. However, I now believe this could lead to a different direction with Diana as a threat and not just an ally to other heroes. It is unclear whether or not this route will be explored, though one can only hope. Either way Absolute Wonder Woman #5 demonstrated such a unique spin on Wonder Woman, one I am excited to see where it takes us.

I am sure that we will continue to see Diana and Circes relationship develop throughout the Absolute Wonder Woman series. As it stands at the moment, we have been given a great look at how strong their bond is. Circe is just so motherly and admirable, always thinking of one thing and one thing only, Diana, despite not planning to raise a child of her own.

This could not have been a more perfect comic, Kelly Thompson really is such a talented writer, and when you put that together with the amazing work of artist Hayden Sherman and talented colourist Jordie Bellaire, you get a match made in heaven…. or in this case hell! This issue is more than deserving of a ten star rating on Nerdy Nook.

Absolute Wonder Woman #5 demonstrates the depth of Wonder Woman’s powers within the Absolute universe, giving the opportunity for unique story telling that no Wonder Woman comic has ever told before. It’s visually stunning and incredibly well written, a worthy entry to DC’s All In initiative.
